Mr. James Baggie Bio, Deputy Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has called for continued collaboration from the general membership of Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union in Waterloo and the Western-Rural District during a day interactive session with the Union’s Regional Executive on Friday 21st May 2021 at the Waterloo Central Lorry park.
Mr. Bio while addressing Drivers said, the SLRSA is people centred and the Authority do have an ‘Open-Door’ policy on collaboration and partnership for as long as the idea is geared towards changing the narratives and restoring the much anticipated sanity on our roads.
The SLRSA Deputy Executive Director disclosed that the Authority is planning to hold a National Refreshers Training Program for public Transport Drivers, this he said would be done in collaboration with the National Executive of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union and participants would be drawn from all the regions in the country.
“We will train and certify 1000 public service drivers from all regions in Sierra Leone. This training will help capacitate public service drivers and increase their level of awareness on accident prevention; Post Crash Responses and basic vehicle safety precautions”. Mr. Bio said. Adding that, participants would be divided into 4 groups with 250 participants to a group and each and every participant MUST have a valid Driver’s License.
He admonished drivers to seize the opportunity and register their names with their respective regional executives. He stressed only registered Drivers would be eligible to participate in the training.
SLRSA Communications and Outreach Unit
