Magistrate Sahr Kakura presiding over the Pademba Road magistrate court No. 1 has on Friday2nd July,2021 granted bailed to one Abu Bakarr N’yaque, for allegedly stealing one hundred and fifty six (156) pieces of foam mattresses property of the Sierra Leone Male Correctional Center.
The prosecution’s witness, Sergeant 16472 Edward Kanu attached to the OSD Headquarter in Freetown, testified in court that he recognized the accused Abu Bakarr N’yaque as his former boss when he was attacked at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Center in Freetown. He went on to say on the 20th April 2021, he was in court when he received a report that the accused person was caught removing foam mattresses out of the Correctional Center. He added that he informed his boss Joseph Kanu who told him to camouflage in civilian attire, adding that he was accompanied with two other officers by the name of Bockarie and Mansaray.
He said that on theirs arrivals at the scene, they saw a van with foam mattresses coming out of the Correctional Center, he told the court that they boarded a motor bike and started chasing after the van, adding that the van then stopped in front of a shop in Regent Road. He further testified that they decided stood by the market to observe the incident. He added that he called his boss and explained the situation to him and his boss ordered military personnel who went to the crime scene took a snapshot of the foam matrasses and they made an arrest of one of the drivers. He said that the accused persons were taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) East End Police Station in Freetown where they obtained statement from them.
Magistrate Sahr Kekura granted bailed to the accused person and adjourned the matter to Monday 12th July 2021.
