Minister Sengeh Craves for New Education Policy

The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education Dr. David Moineh Sengeh, has said in an exclusive interview with this reporter that if Government approves the 600 billion leones budget presented by his Ministry for the 2022 fiscal year, will change the educational sector in Sierra Leone to match with international standards.

Minister Sengeh said for 2022, he has planned to embark on robust transformation in the education sector to a more viable one. He further stated that he will ensure that he facilitated the enactment of the policy guiding the educational sector, adding that by so doing it will help to address the challenges that are faced in administrating the smooth running of the sector. He went on to say that the new policy will also seek to address the operationalization of School fees, utilization and school approval policy, a new West African Examination Act, develop national program for post-birth support to pregnant girls, construct three hostels for girls in three districts, establish additional learning centers for literacy Empowerment, develop and roll out senior secondary education curriculum and syllabus and many other opportunities. The Minister further said that come 2022, he intends to minimize the double shift system especially in the Western Urban. He concluded that with the support of government and donors, he is determined to reshape the educational system and contribute towards the development of the country.
