Medics From Spain Meet with IGP Sellu…

Police Headquarters, George Street Freetown, Monday 25th September, 2023- An eight man team of Medical Doctors from Surgeons In Action Foundation Spain who are in the country for a week long free Surgeries at the Police Hospital Kingtom have met with the Inspector General of Sierra Leone (IGP).

In his statement, IGP Sellu expressed appreciation for the team support towards the SLP medical field.

“For us, welfare especially the medical is very important in our job. We need to have a system where you can continuously cater for the wellbeing of your personnel” said the Police Chief Executive Officer.

He added that when he was therefore informed of their coming to render assistance, he was delighted and decided to give all the required support to facilitate their work.

He looked forward for a continuous working relationship with the foundation, also disclosing that they have other teams who comes in intermittently to offer assistance because the Hospital he said is young and they want to bring it up.
He however stated that they are very mindful of bring people on board who can support them to realise their vision for the Hospital.

“We want to treat our officers specially, we don’t want to see them going to other hospitals, as it takes time and sometimes more expensive but we have the system, we have funds to cater for them, so with such support we are very grateful” he said.

IGP Sellu recalled that when he took over, he asked for the upgrading of the Hospital which today is serving not only the police but the communities.

He appealed for a Paediatric in the future, so that children will form part of the beneficiaries.

He assured that whatever is donated would be best use.

Head of the team who double as President of the foundation, Dre Teresa Butron Villa, said they were pleased working with the police, while commending the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital Dr Conteh and that preparations including data of beneficiaries patients have been completed.

The team she disclosed brought in new Auto Clave machine as a donation for the Hospital which has been added to the two bought by this current IGP.
