EGYPTAIR Transports Pilgrims from Sierra Leone for the First Time

In a significant step towards strengthening cooperation with African nations, EGYPTAIR, Egypt’s national carrier, has announced its first-ever participation in transporting pilgrims from the Republic of Sierra Leone for the 2025 Hajj season.

Capt. Ahmed Adel, Chairman of EGYPTAIR Holding Company, confirmed that the airline has signed an agreement with the Civil Aviation Authority of Sierra Leone to operate direct charter flights from Freetown-Lungi International Airport to Jeddah and Medina airports in Saudi Arabia.

This cooperation reflects the deep mutual trust and strong bilateral relations between Egypt and Sierra Leone, further reinforced by the recent visit of the President of Sierra Leone to Egypt in late March.

Building on this successful partnership, EGYPTAIR aims to expand its collaboration with Sierra Leonean civil aviation authorities. Discussions are underway to explore the possibility of launching a regular flight route between Freetown and Cairo, along with other initiatives to enhance air connectivity between the two countries.

Capt. Adel also noted that this milestone coincides with EGYPTAIR’s 93rd anniversary, celebrated on May 7, 2025. Founded in 1932, EGYPTAIR is the first airline in Africa and the Middle East, and the seventh established airline worldwide. Over the decades, it has maintained a steadfast commitment to delivering safe and reliable air services across the African continent.

In addition to Sierra Leone, EGYPTAIR will also transport pilgrims from Mali and Palestine this Hajj season, underscoring its prominent role in both the Arab and African aviation sectors.
