In response to recent public concerns about rising data costs, Africell Sierra Leone has clarified that it has not increased any data prices. The telecom operator confirmed that all existing data bundles remain unchanged, while introducing a new TikTok-specific bundle designed to meet evolving customer needs.
Kamanda, Africell’s Communications Manager, explained that although the 1Mbps weekly data bundle was discontinued, the daily 1Mbps plan continues to be available. “There has been no price increase. We have only realigned some packages to better reflect customer preferences and usage trends. Our new TikTok bundle responds directly to the growing demand for platform-specific data access,” he said.
The clarification comes amid online rumors accusing telecom companies, including Africell and Orange, of secretly raising data prices without public notice. Africell emphasized its commitment to transparency, affordability, and customer-focused service delivery.
The introduction of the TikTok bundle targets young users, content creators, and digital entrepreneurs who increasingly rely on social media platforms for networking, education, and business growth.
While the weekly 1Mbps plan was popular among some customers, Africell assured subscribers that alternative bundles remain available to suit various budgets and needs. “Our customers remain at the heart of every decision we make. We continue to invest heavily in infrastructure and innovation to serve them better,” Kamanda added.
Africell also highlighted recent efforts to improve network quality, expand 4G coverage, and enhance customer care, positioning itself as a leader in Sierra Leone’s digital transformation.
Industry experts have praised Africell’s responsiveness and urged regulators to support operators prioritizing innovation, affordability, and communication transparency.
As digital access grows increasingly vital to national development, Africell’s focus on tailored data services such as the TikTok bundle marks a positive step toward meeting the dynamic needs of Sierra Leone’s digital consumers.
Africell encourages users to explore the new offerings and share feedback through official channels, underscoring its commitment to continuous improvement and open dialogue.
