Following the violent incidents of the August 10, reports reaching us from the east end of Freetown indicate that Alhaji Ibrahim Kargbo Known Critics of the ruling government has faced plethora of death threats from thugs believe to be hired by members and supporters of the ruling SLPP Government.
Our sources, further argued that, Alhaji Ibrahim Kargbo being a staunch critic of the ruling SLPP government has no hands in the August 10 incident, adding that, he was only targeted because he was constantly criticizing the bad policies, human rights violations and poor handling of the economy by members of the ruling SLPP government led by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio.
“Alhaji Ibrahim Kargbo is the voice for the voiceless and many people described him as a fearless man in advocating for the ordinary man,” our sources said, adding by calling on members of the ruling SLPP government to desist from using thugs to target ordinary Sierra Leoneans for only doing holding the government to account for their wrong doings. Our sources further vehemently opposed that, Alhaji Ibrahim Kargbo did not instigate young people to take to the street, adding that, the young people only acted on the frustration which they have been put by the ruling SLPP government.
In a swift reaction, the national spokesman of the ruling SLPP government Lahai Lawrence Leema denied that, the ruling SLPP government does not have any thugs and that the SLPP party is a law abiding party that believes in upholding human rights and promoting good governance. He further confirmed that the police have issued a wanted notice for Alhaji Ibrahim Kargbo and others because they believed that the youths only acted as a result of the critical information they received from Alhaji Ibrahim Kargbo and others who were so vocal in naming and shaming the government for unwarranted reasons.
According to the Public Notice issued by the Sierra Leone Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Kargbo and others were called by the security sectors to explain or deny their role in the devastating August 10 protest in the country.
However, the national spokesman for the main opposition APC party, Mr. Sidi Yayah Tunis argued that the public notice issued by the Sierra Leone Police is only set to target their membership. He further called on the police to restrain themselves from being used by members of the ruling SLPP government. He further called on the government to sustain the political space by allowing members of the opposition to participate freely in the democratic processes by holding the government accountable.
As we go to press, all efforts to get the reactions of Alhaji Ibrahim Kargbo and others on the wanted list from the Sierra Leone Police proven futile.
