Pademba Road Court No. 6 in Freetown has issued a bench warrant against two defendants accused in an alleged assault case after they failed to appear in court.
The matter involving 21-year-old Fanta Sesay, a petty trader, and Mummy Sesay, a stone miner, came before Magistrate Medisa Massaquio on Thursday, 23 April 2026.
The accused are facing two charges: wounding contrary to Section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to Section 47 of the same Act.
According to the charge sheet, the defendants allegedly wounded Hassan Kanu on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, at Upper Leicester Peak, Mountain Rural District, Western Area, Freetown.
The second count states that both accused assaulted Hassan Kanu at the same location and date in a manner that caused him actual bodily harm.
When the matter was called in court, both defendants were absent.
Prosecutor Detective Police Constable 19447 F. Robert applied for a bench warrant against the absent defendants and their sureties.
Magistrate Massaquio granted the application and ordered the issuance of bench warrants against both defendants.
The matter was adjourned to 30 April 2026 for further proceedings.
