The Pademba Road Court No.3 in Freetown was thrown into the spotlight on Wednesday, 24th September 2025, when Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens, a sitting judge, dragged his alleged lover, 21-year-old Edwina Hawa Jamiru, a student at the Law Department of Fourah Bay College, before the court on multiple counts of domestic violence.
The accused faces three counts, all in violation of Section 2 (1) of the Domestic Violence Act of 2007. According to the particulars of offence, on 27th August 2025 at Kowa Drive, Mothormeh, Regent, the young law student is alleged to have physically abused Justice Stevens, with whom she was in an intimate domestic relationship.
The charges further allege that Jamiru not only physically assaulted but also verbally abused and intimidated the senior judge on the same date and at the same location.
When the matter was called before Magistrate Mamakoh Saio Kallon, the defendant was notably absent from court. Prosecutor Inspector Mohamed Kamara immediately applied for a bench warrant against her. The magistrate granted the application, issuing a bench warrant for Jamiru’s arrest.
The case has been adjourned to 25th September 2025 for further proceedings.
This dramatic turn of events has already sparked public debate, raising serious questions about how a respected member of the judiciary became entangled in a domestic violence scandal involving a much younger law student.
