Koroma Wins Legal Relief

The Government of Sierra Leone has formally discontinued all criminal proceedings against former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, bringing an end to months of legal uncertainty surrounding the treason case filed against him.

In a notice submitted to the High Court, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice invoked Section 45 of the Criminal Procedure Act, 2024, exercising the constitutional authority of the office to withdraw all charges.

Former President Koroma had been facing charges of treason and misprision of treason following investigations into the events surrounding the November 26, 2023 unrest. He was granted bail on medical grounds and has since been receiving medical treatment abroad.

The withdrawal of the charges clears the way for the former President to return to Sierra Leone.
