Man Sentenced to 18 Months Imprisonment for Theft

By Mamajah Jalloh

The ongoing fraud case involving Vandy Amara, a 33-year-old unemployed man, reached its conclusion on Wednesday, 17th September 2025, at Pademba Road Court No. 2. He appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah on a charge of fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20 (1)(iv)(a) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of the offence, on Thursday, 10th July 2025, at Wallace Johnson Street, Freetown, Vandy Amara allegedly fraudulently converted for his own use a black H.L.X motorbike, registration number A.T.C 001, valued at Twenty-Four Thousand Leones (Le 24,000). The motorbike had been entrusted to him by Emmanuel Lahai for maintenance purposes.

When the charge was read and explained to the accused, he pleaded guilty. The state prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police, informed the court that the prosecution had closed its case, leaving the matter for ruling.

In delivering the sentence, Magistrate Fornah noted that the convict was a first-time offender who had pleaded for mercy. Taking into account that the complainant had been permanently deprived of his motorbike, the magistrate sentenced Vandy Amara to eighteen months imprisonment. Alternatively, he may restore the motorbike to the complainant. The magistrate emphasized that the sentence is to be served in full if imprisonment is chosen.
