Murder Suspect Committed to High Court for Trial

By Mamajah Jalloh

A murder suspect, Abass Kargbo, has been committed to the High Court of Sierra Leone for trial following a ruling by Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road Court No.1.

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, during proceedings in which the magistrate ordered that the accused be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown pending his appearance before the High Court.

Kargbo is charged with one count of murder, contrary to Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861, as repealed and replaced by Section 1(a) of the Schedule to the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act, 2021 (Act No. 6 of 2022).

According to the charge statement, the accused allegedly murdered one Abu Bakarr Fullah on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Timbo Lane, Bah Drive, off the Main Peninsula Highway in Freetown.

When the charge was read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken, the offence being indictable and therefore outside the jurisdiction of the Magistrate Court.

In his ruling, Magistrate Jah stated that the prosecution had established a prima facie case sufficient to justify committing the accused to the High Court for trial. He accordingly ordered that the matter be transferred to the High Court and that the accused remain in lawful custody pending further proceedings.

The case has been adjourned for continuation at the High Court.
