Freetown, July 30, 2026 – The National Communications Authority (NatCA) has assured the public that it is closely monitoring ongoing cybersecurity incidents affecting digital services across Sierra Leone and is working with key stakeholders to coordinate a national response.
In a public notice issued from its headquarters at NatCA Tower in South Ridge, Freetown, the authority disclosed that it is collaborating with government institutions, law enforcement agencies, licensed telecommunications operators, and other relevant partners to address the situation and mitigate potential risks. The regulator emphasized that safeguarding the country’s digital infrastructure remains a top priority amid growing cybersecurity threats.
As the body responsible for regulating the electronic communications sector, NatCA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the security, resilience, and integrity of Sierra Leone’s digital communications systems. The authority noted that maintaining public confidence in digital services is critical as the country continues to expand its digital transformation agenda.
NatCA also called on communication service providers and digital platforms to strengthen their cybersecurity measures, promptly report incidents, and comply with established security standards. The regulator stressed that proactive cooperation among industry players is essential to protecting users and minimizing disruptions to digital services.
The authority further advised members of the public to remain vigilant by avoiding suspicious links and messages, safeguarding personal information, and enabling multi-factor authentication on their accounts wherever possible. These precautions, NatCA said, can significantly reduce the risk of cyberattacks and online fraud.
Describing cybersecurity as a shared responsibility, NatCA pledged to continue monitoring developments and provide updates through its official communication channels as necessary. The authority reiterated its commitment to working with stakeholders to strengthen Sierra Leone’s cyber resilience and ensure the continued stability of the nation’s digital ecosystem.
