Omar Sy, star of “Lupin,” has been appointed as the 2026 Youth Olympic ambassador for Dakar.

Omar Sy, a prominent public figure and actor, has been named the ambassador for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar. He has a strong connection to Senegal and is dedicated to helping young people. He will provide his voice and image to the first Olympic event ever held on the African continent, which is set for October 31–November 13, 2026.

One of the individuals that unites people is Omar Sy. The 47-year-old internationally recognized actor is taking on a new role that is deeply grounded in reality.

Sy, who has already starred in shows that have made an impression on audiences all over the world, will now serve as a spokesperson for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Dakar 2026, the first Olympic competition to be held on African soil.

The actor, who is well-known for his parts in successful movies, made his name as one of the most well-liked characters in French-language cinema in 2011 with The Intouchables. His audience was able to reach far beyond Europe thanks to the Netflix series Lupin, which further elevated his image internationally.

His expanding global influence continues with his selection on Monday, December 29, as an ambassador for Dakar 2026 YOG. When this new post was announced, he expressed his feelings.

Being an ambassador for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal makes me feel honored and proud. Sharing, solidarity, challenging oneself, and cross-cultural interactions are ideals that are dear to my heart and are embodied by these Games,” he remarked.

“Seeing the youth of Senegal and the entire world shine together on the land of Teranga is a powerful symbol of unity and hope,” he added, highlighting the event’s symbolic significance.

Sy, who was born in France to a Senegalese father, has a strong personal bond with his homeland.

His performances in Father & Soldier (Tirailleurs, 2022) and Yao (2018) both demonstrate how this connection has impacted some of his creative decisions. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye also welcomed him in January 2025, underscoring his dedication to Senegal and its young people.
