Politician Remanded in Alleged Incitement Case

By Mamajah Jalloh

Mohamed Moriba, a politician, appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Tuesday, 10th February 2026, in connection with an alleged incitement case. He faces a charge of incitement contrary to the law.
According to the police charge sheet, on Saturday, 27th December 2025, at Kamalo Village in Karina District, North-West Province, Moriba allegedly created audio and video clips with content intended to incite mayhem, disorder, and unrest. The videos were reportedly posted on the TikTok account Salone Gossip Hub.

When the charge was read, the defendant did not enter a plea.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) led the prosecution, presenting Ibrahim Sorie Kamara, a cyber analyst, as a witness. Kamara testified that, although the videos contained potentially inflammatory language, there were no explicit instructions to commit violence. He prepared transcripts of the videos, which were obtained from the Scientific Support Unit of the CID under Supervisor Kabba Lavallie. These transcripts were submitted to the court as Exhibit A1–18.
The witness noted that the defendant used inciting words against President Julius Maada Bio but could not determine if the handlers of the TikTok account were personally connected to Moriba.

During cross-examination, Moriba’s legal counsel, C. Kamara, requested bail, citing the defendant’s medical condition and promising to provide supporting documentation. However, DSP Sorie Conteh opposed the bail request, referencing a previous affidavit.
Magistrate Fornah refused bail, citing the seriousness of the offence, and remanded Moriba to the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown. The case has been adjourned to 13th February 2026 for further proceedings.
