By Mamajah Jalloh

Freetown – The ongoing theft case involving Abubakarr Turay, 37, Fatmata Bangura, 38, and Kadiatu Turay, 19, was heard again on Tuesday, 19th August 2025, before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1. The trio faces two counts of Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and Larceny, under the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly conspired to steal $7,000 (Le170,100) from complainant Kai Kamara on 15th January 2025 at Fadika Drive, Hill Station, Freetown.

When the charges were read, Abubakarr Turay pleaded not guilty, while Fatmata Bangura and her daughter Kadiatu Turay pleaded guilty to both counts.

During proceedings, State Prosecutor M.K. Taylor called prosecution witness number five, Detective Andrew Nyakeh Amara of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Lumley. He testified that he obtained voluntary caution and charge statements from all three accused between 20th January and 2nd February 2025. These statements were now tendered as exhibits.

During cross-examination, defense counsel M.Y. Conteh noted that the third accused, Kadiatu Turay, denied stealing the $7,000 in her statement, although she admitted to serving as Kamara’s caretaker.

Magistrate Jah adjourned the case to 1st September 2025 for further proceedings. Bail continues for all accused persons.
