The ongoing alleged fraud case involving Anthony Turay continued on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, before Magistrate Adama Kandeh of Pademba Road Court No. 2. Turay is facing one count of fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20(1)(iv)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, between 1st June and 31st December 2017, at the back of Metchon, Goderich, Freetown, the accused allegedly converted to his own use property entrusted to him by one Yusif Kamara. The property included 850 cement blocks valued at Le 30,000 and 19 bags of cement valued at Le 180,000, all amounting to a total of Le 28,920,000. The items were reportedly given to the accused for safekeeping.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused, no plea was taken.
Prosecutor Sergeant 10261 Kargbo K led in the third prosecution witness, Fatmata Kamara, a businesswoman who identified herself as the wife of the complainant. She testified that she witnessed her husband hand over the building materials to the accused, who promised to keep them safe and return them when needed.
She told the court that days later, they found the accused carrying blocks from the site. When questioned, he promised to return them but never did. Fatmata said that after several failed attempts to locate him, they reported the matter to the Lumley Police Station. The accused allegedly promised to pay Le 3,000 but defaulted.
Defense Counsel A.G.M. Lukullay cross-examined the witness and applied for bail on behalf of the accused. Magistrate Kandeh, however, refused the bail application and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to 31st October 2025 for further proceedings.
