TENSION AT PPRC AS EXECUTIVE SECRETARY REJECTS LETTER FROM PDP SORBEH

By Mohamed Kamara

A new controversy has erupted within the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) following reports that its Executive Secretary, Mr. Olu Davies, on 17th October 2025 allegedly refused to accept a formal complaint letter from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP Sorbeh), addressed to the Commission’s Chairman.

The action, which some have described as “unjust, unfair, and contrary to civil service ethics,” has sparked serious questions about the impartiality and credibility of the PPRC in mediating political disputes among registered parties.

According to PDP Sorbeh, the rejected letter contained a formal complaint and protest against what it called the “unacceptable conduct” of the Commission’s Director of Communication and Training, Mr. Lucien Mormoh. The party accused Mr. Momoh of engaging in defamatory and politically biased behavior against its leadership.

In the letter, signed by the party’s National Secretary General, Alhaji Ben Kamara, PDP Sorbeh alleged that Mr. Momoh made derogatory statements during a national radio broadcast on 98.1 FM on October 8, 2025, where he was purportedly heard referring to the party’s official headquarters at 2L Bismark Johnson Street as a “garage.”

The party further claimed that the PPRC official appeared on the same program with Hon. Mohamed Bangura, a sitting Member of Parliament under the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC), during which both men allegedly made comments aimed at discrediting PDP Sorbeh’s national executive.

PDP Sorbeh described these actions as “a calculated campaign to undermine the legitimate leadership” of the party, insisting that such conduct violates the PPRC Act and the principles of neutrality expected of Commission officials.

The party said it has instructed its legal counsel to institute proceedings against Mr. Momoh for character defamation and the publication of false and injurious statements, and has urged the PPRC to investigate the matter with “urgency and seriousness.”

“The PPRC, as the regulator of political party conduct, must immediately call Mr. Momoh to order. His actions are a recipe for political instability and could bring the entire political process into disrepute,” the letter stated.

Meanwhile, observers say the refusal by the Executive Secretary to receive the party’s complaint raises institutional concerns about the Commission’s administrative processes and adherence to civil service codes.

Efforts to get an official comment from the PPRC on the issue proved futile as of press time.
