Traders Face Court Over Alleged Wounding and Assault

By Mamajah Jalloh

Four traders accused of wounding and assault appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, to answer eight charges under the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861.

The accused are Memunatu Turay, 32, Mariama Sillah, 44, Aminata Sillah, 41, and Adama Sillah, 46. They are charged with wounding, contrary to Section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the same Act.

According to the prosecution, Memunatu Turay allegedly maliciously wounded Ramata Koroma on 9 April 2026 at No. 2 Garrison Street, Freetown.

The second count alleges that on the same date and at the same location, Memunatu Turay maliciously wounded Dusu Sillah.

The prosecution further alleges that all four defendants maliciously wounded Fatmata Koroma during the same incident.

The remaining counts allege that the defendants assaulted Ramata Koroma, Dusu Sillah, Fatmata Koroma, Fanta Sillah, and Hawanatu Koroma, thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm.

When the charges were read and explained, all four defendants pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution, led by Police Constable 18235 Thoronka K, called its fourth witness, Fanta Sillah, a cookery seller.

In her testimony, Fanta Sillah told the court that she knows the complainants, who are her relatives, and also knows all the defendants as neighbours residing in the same compound.

She recalled that on 9 April 2026, an incident occurred involving the complainants and the defendants, which led to the matter now before the court.

The defendants were represented by A. Conteh, Esq.

After hearing the witness’s testimony, Magistrate Fornah adjourned the case to 28 July 2026 for the continuation of the evidence of Prosecution Witness No. 4.
