FREETOWN, Sierra Leone — Two drivers, Alie Kamara and Abubakarr Koroma, have been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown over allegations of stealing a government vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Education.
The accused appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Monday, August 17, 2026, facing two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony and larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of the alleged offences, on July 1, 2026, at the Ministry of Education, New England Ville, Western Area, Freetown, the two accused allegedly conspired with other persons unknown to steal a white JAC vehicle, registration number AWV 063.
The second count alleges that on the same date and at the same location, the accused stole the white JAC J6 4×4 pickup, valued at NLe636,000, property of the Ministry of Education, while the vehicle was allegedly in the custody of Alie Kamara.
When the charges were read and explained to them, both accused pleaded not guilty.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen, Esq., told the court that the prosecution had served the accused with copies of the case and inquiry files.
The accused, who were not legally represented at the time, acknowledged receipt of the documents.
Bail Refused
Magistrate Jah subsequently refused to grant bail, citing the seriousness of the offences with which the accused are charged.
He ordered that both men be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown pending further proceedings.
The matter was adjourned to August 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
