Woman Appears in Court Over Alleged Manslaughter of Freetown Resident

By Mamajah Jalloh

Freetown, Sierra Leone – A 29-year-old woman, Isata Bindi, appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of the Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Friday, May 16, 2025, facing a single count of manslaughter, contrary to law.

The charge stems from an incident on April 2, 2025, at Fossic Williams Drive, off Aberdeen Road, in Freetown’s Western Area, where the accused is alleged to have unlawfully caused the death of Mustapha Bangura.

When the charge was read in court, no plea was taken from the accused, who appeared unrepresented by legal counsel.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Mansaray, the state prosecutor, requested a short adjournment to allow time for a proper conference with key witnesses, who were absent from the initial hearing.

Given the serious nature of the allegation, Magistrate Kekura denied bail and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Female Correctional Centre in Freetown (correcting the reference to the male facility).

The matter was adjourned to May 23, 2025, for the continuation of proceedings
