FREETOWN, Sierra Leone — An unemployed youth, Mohamed Sesay, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown for stealing two outdoor air-conditioning units belonging to the Judiciary of Sierra Leone.
Sesay was sentenced on Monday, August 24, 2026, by Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 after he pleaded guilty to a count of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of the offence, Sesay, between August 15 and 16, 2026, at the Main Law Court Building on Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown, stole one 18,000 BTU Icona outdoor air-conditioning unit valued at NLe19,000 and one 18,000 BTU Sharp outdoor air-conditioning unit, also valued at NLe19,000.
The two units were said to have a combined value of NLe38,000 and were the property of the Judiciary of Sierra Leone.
When the charge was read and explained to him, Sesay pleaded guilty.
Prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen, Esq., told the court that the convict was not a first-time offender, noting that he was already serving a one-month sentence for a previous offence.
The prosecutor therefore urged the court to impose the maximum sentence.
Sesay, who was not legally represented, pleaded with the court for mercy and leniency.
In his sentencing remarks, Magistrate Jah said he had considered the convict’s plea for mercy before sentencing him to five years imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
Sesay was subsequently remanded to the correctional facility to serve his custodial sentence.
