Staff of Radio Democracy, 98.1 FM Sympathize with British High Commission, on Queen’s Passing

The Staff and Management of Radio Democracy 98.1 FM on Thursday September 15th 2022, joined sympathizers around the World to sign the book of condolence on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the II, by signing the book of condolence at the British High Commission office in Freetown.

Speaking on behalf of the team, the Station’s Manager Asmaa James, said that the Station is signing the book of condolence on two basis; to sympathize with the British Monarch and to show Gratitude to the British High Commission Sierra Leone on their role to sustain Radio Democracy.

Asmaa recalled the role played by Peter Penford the then British High Commissioner in establishing 98.1 FM in 1997 and how the various British High Commissioners have been pivotal in sustaining the institution during trying times.

As a one of the women honoured amongst the 7 great women represent the 7 decades rule of the Queen, Mrs. James described this as impactful to her zeal for her humanitarian activities as voice for Vulnerable women and girls in Sierra Leone.

Making her remarks, the British High Commissioner, Lisa Chesney expressed appreciation for the move by Radio Democracy for sympathizing with the British Government at this trying time of their history.

Lisa described 98.1 FM as a force to reckon with in strengthening democracy in Sierra Leone and promised continuous British government support as a means of keeping the Queen’s legacy.
