Chinese Military Medical Expert Group Bids Farewell to Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio

Presidential Lodge, Hill Station, Tuesday 21 December 2021 – The Chinese Military Medical Expert Group, CMMEG, in Sierra Leone has called at the presidency to bid farewell to His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio after one year of service in the country.

CMMEG came in 2020 and has been playing an active role in the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Hu Zhangliang, thanked President Bio for making time to bid farewell to the medical team, saying that the coming of CMMEG to Sierra Leone was indicative of the diplomatic and friendly relations that had long existed between the two countries.

Ambassador Hu further noted that CMMEG was given the specific duty of performing the tests on samples collected and also conduct treatment on COVID-19, especially critical cases, noting that more than a thousand samples had been tested and over 200 patients in critical conditions were treated.

Team Leader of the CMMEG, Weiwei Chen, thanked the President and people of Sierra Leone for working with them during the course of their stay in the country. She said that they enjoyed good working relationship with the local medical professionals.

“We hope Sierra Leone becomes better and better,” she concluded.

In a brief response, His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio expressed gratitude and thanked the President and the entire citizens of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, for their support whenever Sierra Leone needed them. He added that the diplomatic cooperation would continue to bring the two countries together.

President Bio further noted that aid from China was a demonstration of the quality of leadership the two countries had always displayed.

“I must hasten to say thank you very much. We will always have fond memories of what we have done together,” he noted.
