President Julius Maada Bio Departs London for Turkey on Private Visit

London, United Kingdom, Tuesday 10 August 2021 – His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio has departed London this morning for a private visit to the Republic of Turkey where he is expected to spend two weeks.

While in the Republic of Turkey, His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio is expected to hold private meetings with members of the private sector to explore investment opportunities in Sierra Leone for Turkish companies and investors.

It could be recalled that on 29th July His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio participated in the Global Education Summit in London which raised US $4 billion for the Global Partnership for Education as part of a US $5 billion funding target to transform education for millions of the world’s most vulnerable children. This funding is expected to enable 175 million children to learn and help get 88 million more girls and boys in school by 2025.

It could be recalled that on the margins of the Global Education Summit, His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio held meetings with the UK Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Boris Johnson MP, the UK Foreign Secretary, Dominic Rabb MP and UK Minister for Africa, James Duddridge MP. During the high-level meetings, His Excellency the President was commended on his reform agenda, gains in the education sector and progress in Press Freedom. Additionally, His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of Ghana and current Chairman of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

While in London, His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio held a meeting with a network of Alumni Associations based in the United Kingdom on Sunday 1st August 2021 during which His Excellency the President applauded them for the various contributions to their respective schools in Sierra Leone and encouraged them to support his vision for education.

Following the Global Education Summit, His Excellency the President extended his stay in London to engage in private meetings with British investors and companies as part of his sustained efforts to promote investment opportunities in Sierra Leone.

His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio has been accompanied to the Republic of Turkey by his family.
