As Gov’t fails to pay Karpowership… Freetown to experience massive blackouts

Reliable sources have confirmed that the Turkish Karporwership in Freetown has shut down since Friday because of the government’s failure to pay tens of millions of dollars to the Karporwership as debt.

Aminata Kamara 33, a trader in cold items expressed discomfort over the frequent power outages in the country stating that as a business woman dealing in cold drinks, water and other ice items , her business has  been affected badly thus urging the country’s power supply institution and government to improve the electricity supply in the country.

‘’ we have been affected by the frequent power outage in central business district these days. Our ice, drinks, and cold items are just stock in here with no cooling,’’ she said, adding that her products can only sell when they are cold andl6 there is frequent power services. 

Abu Jalloh , an electronic shop owner in Freetown complain about the recent power outages in the city stating that for him electricity is everything to their business viability adding that in state of rise in fuel prices , their only hope is the electricity provided for the electricity distribution agency (EDSA) in the country.

‘’ I understand that the government is owing Karporwership. I want to this opportunity to urge them to pay their debts so that we can enjoy the frequent electricity we have been used to. The availability of electricity helps business people like us whenever someone comes to buy electronic gadgets to us,’’ he said.

Already certain parts of the capital are experiencing frequent power outages and there have been calls by citizens for the government to restore electricity in the capital, Freetown.
