Sierra Leone Embassy in Cairo Hosts Farewell for Diplomat Fatmata Haja Lahai

Cairo, Egypt — Friday, August 30, 2024 — In a heartfelt tribute, the Sierra Leone Embassy in Cairo organized a send-off ceremony for Madam Fatmata Haja Lahai, Counsellor, who is concluding her six-year tenure in Egypt. The event, held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Conference Hall of the Chancery in Sarayat, Maadi, was attended by embassy staff, family, and friends.

Samuel Alie Kargbo, Counsellor/Head of Chancery, opened the ceremony by reflecting on the deep connections formed and challenges overcome during Mdm. Lahai’s service. His remarks highlighted the significance of the event in celebrating the bonds forged through dedication and shared experiences.

The evening featured heartfelt speeches from colleagues who praised Mdm. Lahai’s relentless efforts in advancing diplomacy, strengthening international relations, and representing Sierra Leone with dignity. The stories shared underscored the diplomat’s positive impact on both the local community and international relations.

In his keynote address, His Excellency Ambassador Sadiq Silla acknowledged the mixed emotions of the farewell but emphasized the pride in Mdm. Lahai’s achievements and the legacy she leaves behind. “Tonight’s ceremony illustrates how diplomacy bridges cultures, builds relationships, and fosters understanding in a world often marked by division,” the Ambassador noted.

As Mdm. Lahai prepares to transition to a new role, the ceremony’s applause, well-wishes, and emotional farewells served as a testament to her significant contributions and the enduring impression she made on her colleagues.

Abdul Rahman Sankoh Yillah, head of the Sierra Leone Community in Cairo, commended the ceremony as a fitting tribute to a diplomat whose commitment to peace and cooperation profoundly impacted the community.

Amidst the warm atmosphere of shared memories and candlelight, Mdm. Lahai expressed her deep gratitude for the camaraderie and the spirit of diplomacy that has transcended borders and united hearts during her tenure.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Lady Michaella Nyawa Lahai, who expressed appreciation to God, the embassy staff, friends, and family for their support in making the ceremony memorable.
